For over 25 years, my laboratory has investigated signal transduction mechanisms critical to cancer cell survival in response to hypoxic and therapeutic agents. Using hepatocellular carcinomic cells as well as breast cancer cell lines, we have elucidated the roles of a number of protein kinases in cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation.

Recent studies have addressed mechanisms of cell survival in response to environmental stresses such as hypoxic and inflammatory cytokines. The goal is to establish cell context-specific signaling pathways that are amenable to therapeutic manipulation.
